CITIZENSHIP BY BIRTH

Those born in Argentina territory acquires Argentina citizenship at birth, except for those born to foreign diplomats.

CITIZENSHIP BY DESCENT

Those born to at least one Argentina parent may be eligible for citizenship by descent. To apply, contact your local Argentina consulate or embassy and set up an appointment.

For those under age 18, you will need to submit the following documents at your appointment:

1. certified copy of the birth certificate of the Argentina parent (both birth certificates of both parents are Argentina);

2. child's birth certificate with apostille;

3. national identification of both parents (if both are from Argentina, the DNI for both parents);

4. both parents' consent.

For those over age 18, you will need the following:

1. certified copy of the Argentina parent's birth certificate from the Argentina Civil Registry;

2. applicant's birth certificate along with apostille;

3. application and identification.

CITIZENSHIP BY NATURALIZATION

Those who would like to apply for Argentina citizenship by naturalization must meet the following requirements:

• be 18 years old or older;
• have lived in Argentina for 2 years;
• apply for citizenship before a federal judge.

Citizenship may be denied if you:

• have been in jail for more than 3 years in the last 5 years;
• are under criminal prosecution;
• do not have a legal income (e.g. working without a legal permit).
